Everyone needs a vacation once in a while, but a family vacation shouldn’t put a huge gap in your wallet.

1. Go Camping

Probably the easiest way to save money would be to skip the hotels and pitch a tent. Your family will get much closer to sleeping under the stars. You can find campsites everywhere and might not even have to travel very far for your getaway.

Maybe you don’t really want to camp but you still want to see some of the outdoors. Find a place near a national park to get some nature and some family fun.

All cities have plenty of history that you can learn about. See if your city or a city you want to visit has a bus tour available. You can ride around the city and learn plenty of interesting facts from your guide.

8. Stay With Friends or Family

Another way to save money on your vacation would be to visit family or friends who do not live super close to you. This is a way to experience a new place and not have to spend loads of money on sleeping accommodations. Plus your friends or family would probably be grateful to see you and host your trip.

9. Book Everything Together

If you’re planning a trip that you will need to fly, rent a car and stay at a hotel you should look into packaging all of these things together. You can save some money by booking through sites that offer all three accommodations.

10. Have a Vacation in Your Own Backyard

Sometimes it’s hard to get the whole family free from other obligations so if you’ve got a few days to spend together then you could create your own vacation sanctuary in your backyard. You can have a water balloon fight, have a cookout, relax in the sun or just about anything. There are lots of fun budget-friendly outdoor activities to do especially if you have younger kids you don’t want to travel with.
